Learning Programming Language Constructs Through Blind Builds

Programming a machine is very much like building Legos blind-folded.  One student is the machine (blind-folded) and the others are the programmers.  See how effective they are at communicating concise instructions to get their machine to accomplish an otherwise simple task.
Core Values Checklist
  • Speaking respectfully,
  • Encouraging everyone to participate,
  • Patient with frustrating moments,
  • Celebrating success,
  • Valuing each other’s opinion, and
  • Having Fun!
Language Checklist
  • Avoiding use of adjectives (color) that are meaningless in context,
  • Using descriptive nouns to identify parts,
  • Using descriptive verbs to identify actions, and
  • Avoiding use of pronouns that are ambiguous.
The custom mini builds were all designed and distributed as Core Values raffle prizes at Central TX events.  You can also try to use the rebricks of existing LEGO sets for a quicker way to buy Legos that can be made into multiple mini build kits.
