Portable FLL Practice Table 2'10" X 4' footprint

Design Features:
  • Can be stacked assembled on top of each other or stacked disassembled to fit in back of SUV.
  • Corner feet so that the table can be placed level on the ground
  • Over 2' clearance under each board so that it can be placed across 2 or 3 2'x4' tables
  • Latches allow for assembly without any extra equipment
  • Weight and size of each piece can be lifted by a woman (yes that's me, and I'm pretty weak)
  • Reasonably priced (My cost was $65 for lumber, $12 for latches, $7 for Doweling Kit, $5 paint + screws, sand paper etc.)
Materials:
  • ~26 - 1 5/8" T25 Star screws (for bottom support boards) (don't use stainless steal, they pop from the heat)
  • ~32 - 2 1/2" T25 Star screws (for border walls)
  • 16 - #4 flat screws (for Latches) (as shown in photo gallery)
  • 4 - Latches (such as Toggle Latch Clamp 4001)
  • 3/8" Dowel Kit with at least 8 dowels (as shown in photo gallery, you really can't install these without a drill press, there are alternative methods but the boards will become less and less aligned with time)
  • 1 - 4' x 8' plywood (preferred Maple or Birch 0.453in thick, this is twice the price of cheap plywood, but so worth the extra $20); ask the store to cut it into 2'7" - 2'10" - 2'7" pieces for you and you can lug it home in your car. They need to be cut in this order so that they assembly back together into it's original grain.
  • 2 - 2x6 (1.5"x5.5") 8 ft lumber (make sure they are straight as possible, cut these down to 2.5" for border walls and center support, the 2x3 is hard to find and is often not as straight)
  • 1 - 2x4 (1.5"x3.5") 8 ft lumber (make sure they are straight as possible, these are for leaf support)
  • 1 pint black interior paint (you need less than 1 cup if you are only painting the walls, but 1 quart is the smallest size you can buy)
  • Painter's Tape - This is only necessary if you want to only paint a 2" channel along the border walls as shown in the photo gallery instead. You don't need to paint the plywood at all, but I find this looks better than having exposed wood peaking out of the mat gaps.
  • AND some KIDS to do the work!
Supporting Materials (not part of table, but part of displaying):
  • 2'x4' folding table - The link to Amazon shows the ones I use. It can be supported with 2, but I use a 3rd because it helps assemble the middle section.
  • Table Skirts - This is absolutely unnecessary, but can give this an over-the-top polished look. I use these at home so that I can hide a ton of Lego storage boxes underneath.
